Fostering Empathy in Others
Today I wrote about an important topic that I feel sometimes gets pushed aside in the classroom with teachers trying to get through curriculum and meeting deadlines. Those life skills are so important to teach children of all ages and to show others in our everyday life interactions. Read more on how to build an empathetic classroom in my article Fostering Empathy in Others.

Glamping; The New Glamour In Camping
Does the thought of camping sound like so much fun until you start shopping for supplies, loading all the supplies which takes half a day, have to go to the bathroom in the weeds, and spend way too much on camping supplies to realize you don't want to go back? My sister and her friends just went Glamping, it's the new camping. What is Glamping you say? It's camping made glamorous.
This quaint little farm in Paola, Kansas is all about creating an inviting atmosphere for campers old and young alike. Brenda and Steve are the owners of Hoot Owl Hill and go to great lengths to make you feel right at home while glamping on this charming little farm.
You are served a gourmet dinner and breakfast, no one goes hungry here.
There are vintage style tents to greet you and quilts that look like grandmas. You feel like you are walking into an English meadow when you arrive.
The bedding is bright yet homey and oh so comfortable the girls noted.
The air mattresses ensure you won't be sleeping on the bumpy ground and that creepy crawlies won't be right under your sleeping bag.
Aren't these quilts just fabulous?
As the sun starts to go down, they will have a campfire ready for you. You can listen to the music, crickets, coyotes howl or maybe even a hoot owl while enjoying conversation around the campfire. Some of the best stories are told around a campfire, wouldn't you agree?
You can bring your own adult beverages and hang your bottle on the tree. All the cares go away with a few best girlsfriends and a couple bottles of wine. Just a couple, wink!
The gardens are full of beautiful flowers, birds, butterflies, fruits and vegetables.
There's a gift shop you can purchase memorabilia from your trip.
There's ducks and guineas to keep you company and to remind you that you are glamping. If you've never heard a guinea, you've never really experienced a true welcoming committee!
Everywhere you look, it just screams charming!
You can also stay in one of their indoor rooms if you'd like. There's more about that on their web site.
Take a morning stroll in one of the meditation gardens.
If you need to wash up, there is a sink with hot and cold water. There's also a clean porta potty to use. What a relief to not have to go in the weeds! No one wants a chigger bite on their tush!
Head on over to Hoot Owl Hill's web site and read all about Glamping. It's perfect for a girl's night out or a way to get the family out in the wide open spaces without all the work! After all, a night out under the stars should be relaxing and fun! Drop me a line if you give it a try!

Life Planner Love
I recently got on the, "Life Planner" band wagon. I never thought I'd spend money on a planner since I have everything synced in my Iphone and Ipad but there is just something about writing everything down and being able to see it all at once that makes me feel some much more organized and remember it easier.
I had looked on Pinterest for some ideas and Erin Condren planners seemed to be popular choices. I watched many video tutorials and read many blog posts on how people used them especially teachers. I decided to take the plunge and get one myself.
You can choose your cover design and personalize your initials on it. You can also choose which layout you'd like better, vertical or horizontal. I chose vertical since that's what I'm more comfortable with. It came in a very pretty box with some motivational stickers and a coupon for $10 off my next order or if I referred a friend to Erin Condren. It was beautifully packed in tissue paper. It was in a pretty pink polka dot box. I was really excited to open it and Erin Condren did not disappoint!
Here you will see my July calendar. I bought some stickers from Hobby Lobby that matched the color of the month. Since I ordered my planner in June, they sent me a yearly planner starting in July. I didn't completely fill July up since it's one of the slower months for my family. Ball season finishes up and we just kind of relax and get things done around the house in July before school starts.
What I really like about this planner is that it has three large boxes to write on for each day. It also has a monthly calendar for each month at the beginning of the month. I also write things down in that space for a quick glance at the month such as which week looks the least busy to schedule an appointment or if a week looks packed, completely stay away from scheduling there.
It also has lines at the bottom of the planner for writing notes or journaling if you're into that. I plan on printing the kids pictures I take during the month and printing them on computer paper just to fill the boxes. I'm a very visual person so I like to take lots of pictures and remember an event based on the photos I took.
The spiral bound notebook is very durable. There are many tutorials that show how to add dividers, tabs, and even new customizable covers to your planner. You can check out my Pinterest page where I pinned all my favorite Life Planner ideas, stickers, free print-outs, etc.
Diary of a Not So Wimpy Teacher has a nice post on how she uses hers and a video.
Erin Condren has a ton of different choices on her web site. They have Teacher Planners, Life Planners, Wedding Planners, Journals, and more.
The choices are endless. Take a look at her website at the choices to get organized!

Brassy to Sassy
I may or may not have taken this out of someone's trash. I will never reveal my secrets. It was so shiny and pretty. It was calling out, "Save me, save me"!
This was going to be my project today. I was going to take some pretty step by step pictures but my daughter beat me to it. I didn't even know where it went until I stepped out onto my front porch to see this in the yard. I believe that was a hint she may want this for her room.
I'll provide prettier pictures when it's done and hanging in her room.
Yes, she painted the brass chandelier white. We plan on also making a fabric wrap for the chain it's hanging from. There's more to come I promise. Until then, I can already see the transformation. It's going to be sassy!
Laughter in the Classroom
I came across this article, "Laughter and Learning: Humor Boosts Retention." A study that shows the benefits of laughter in the classroom.

Teacher Resiliency Through the Year
A great article to share with teachers at the beginning of the year.
Finders Keepers
I've been going to some estate sales, garage sales, and thrift stores. Read about the treasures I found and the transformations I made.
